Half here, half there I

Cats do have nine lives, but they all happen at the same time - any particular cat's soul is in control of nine cat bodies, and controls them all simultaneously. It's difficult to do that and hold onto their amazing reflexes and coordination, though, which is why cats sleep for about 70% of their lives - that way, any particular cat only has to control two or three bodies at once, which is more manageable. So yeah, your cat is half here and half there.
